Better Than Your Hipster Museum

Senior Communities are the hidden treasure's of happiness in your neighborhood and here's why you'll love volunteering at your local spot...

1. WALKING TALKING HISTORY

Three times older, three times the stories

Three times older, three times the stories

You witnessed the first black president. 85 year old Phyllis witnessed that, plus segregation, World War II, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. She has you beat on epic history stories. Ask an 85 year old how it felt to be 21 in 1953. You'd be surprised how much (or little?) things have changed.

2. RESUME BUILDER

Unfortunately kids, this isn't how it works.

Jobs want 10 years experience and a master's degree at 21 now. Having "volunteered with 90 year/taught them how to dab" puts you above the rest of the pack (sorta). Make sure you can explain the epic time you shared with your new grandma's and you'll stand out.

3. LEARNING TO BE HAPPY

Assisted Living and Senior Communities are places where people are ALWAYS happy to see you. You can't even find that guarantee at home! Bingo, Poker games, and Wine Clubs are just some of the activities that sound cheesy, but are honestly way too much fun. Put your phone down for two hours and just sit and laugh with a new friend.

4. Free Therapy

Stressed? Depressed? Are your friends sick of hearing about Becky with the good hair being a witch to you? A senior community is full of humans who not only would love to listen, they'd also offer better advice. When you have more "yesterday's" than "tomorrows", your outlook on life gets pretty clear and wise.

5. BETTER THAN SPOTIFY

Doris Day? The Everly Brothers? Buddy Holly? Chances are you have no clue who these humans are (and if you do, great job). After chatting with your newly adopted grandpa you'll have 5 more stations on pandora and you'll know what to upload on your iPhone next week when you comeback to visit.

Senior Communities, Memory Care Facilities, Assisted Living Homes: They come in many names but they all hold the same thing - amazing people. Google your local spot, call in and ask when's a good time, and commit to at least three visits. I promise you won't regret it
